This Board Game Life
A weekly blog to post some of my activities in the board game world (and real world too). Inspired by the Advent Gaming Challenge here on BGG every holiday season. I love to look back on all those gaming memories and hope this blog will serve the same purpose. If anyone else enjoys these posts, all the better!

- So I set up the first scenario for Arkham Horror: The Card Game for my third play through hoping to finally beat it. My wish came true but it was as close as I could possibly come to defeat once again. I knew how I was going to approach the game before going in and for the most part all things went according to plan.
I breezed through the first couple of acts, although I did have to avoid a couple of ghouls. After revealing the ghoul priest I sent Wendy to get Lita from the study. 1 move (took the damage and horror) got Lita on the first check, then moved back to hallway. Roland was ready to lay the smackdown. I had his revolver ready and blasted him 3 times for 9 damage. I was so excited to do all that damage that I forgot the ghoul priest would attack. Roland was down after his massive barrage of damage. It would be up to Wendy to do 1 additional point of damage. I had a good attack (baseball bat) ready but missed after my token draw. I had the derringer in hand and the resources need to play it so that was activation 2. Now or never. My final activation I had 4 attack vs the ghoul priest's 4 so I threw in my only 2 cards that had attack on them for another 2. My 6 vs the priest's 4. I reached into the bag and hoped for the best. I pulled a -2 and marveled at my good luck. 1 hit from the priest and it was game over. Not this night. Finally I got the win. I was super pumped to say the least, even if it was just the first scenario.
OMG I did it!Another couple plays I got in this week were my first of The Quest for El Dorado. Autumn and Cam joined me for their first plays as well. I specifically bought this in the hope that Autumn would try her first deck builder. She caught on in no time and really enjoyed it. She even won the first game. I thought it was a lot of fun and a quick family weight game. Cam enjoyed it too but I think it was too light for him. He also hated the tiebreaker which I'm not a big fan of either. Autumn won the first game on tie break and I beat Cam, who had finished first in the second game on tie break. But during our discussion of the game we both agreed you have to consider the audience. Is this a game I would play with just Cam and I or even Logan? Probably not, but I will be super happy to have it in the rotation of family games.
Autumn was so happy to win the first game.
On the road to my win. Why no green adventurer? So sad. After seeing someone post a solo play of Epoch: Early Inventors on SGOYT I had to look for a copy. Only paid like $18 on Amazon. I like the theme of hunter/gatherers at the beginning of civilization. It's one heavy box, full of cardboard. It may not be a highly regarded game but I'm curious to give it a try.
I really like the box cover.I spent part of my Friday a work printing up a copy of Under Falling Skies: A 9-Card Print-and-Play Game. Time theft, yeah I know, shhhhhhh.... don't tell. I think it came out pretty good and hopefully I will give it a go sooner rather than later.
Looks pretty good for a PnP.For my final board game activity of note, I set up Alubari: A Nice Cup of Tea. It looks sooooooo good on the table! Can't wait to get my first solo play in.
All set up and ready to play. And finally....
Turns out Timber likes watermelon.
Glad he likes it, I don't.Have a great week!
